Welcome to the Devizes Heritage website contact page. I hope that you find the site useful and interesting. I would very much welcome your feedback on the site and and constructive criticism.

Devizes Heritage is written and researched by Alan Carter. He is  a retired research scientist and teacher. For 25 years he was at Wellington College in Berkshire as Head of Chemistry and a Housemaster. He was an enthusiatic mountaineer and now walker, canoeist and photographer. He livies in Devizes with his wife Susan. His son Stephen, an ICT teacher and historian, lives with his wife and 3 children in Devizes too. Stephen has provided much needed technical help and support with producing this site.

Alan works with colleagues in the Wiltshire History Centre, the U3a Local History group, and the Wiltshire Buildings Records Office. He is a member of the Trust for Devizes, the Wiltshire Heritage Museum. Alan is carrying out research work with individuals interested in local heritage topics. There is a growing group of people interested and sharing information on Devizes and its history and the conservation of our green open spaces. particular interest are World War two memories and the battle of Roundway Down in 1643. Through this website people have come forward with artifacts that have helped pin down the true site of this important battle.

In the digital age of the 21st Century this website is dedicated to making natural and historical heritage information available on-line for the general public. The web site is not for profit and advertising is not allowed.The material on this website, including its photographs may be used for any non-profit or educational use. An acknowledgement of the use of this material would be appreciated.
